Children ride bicycles around a path marked with chalk

Bike Rodeo

Grade: Fourth
When:  All Year Long – 35-to-45-minute sessions

This is the second of a two-part lesson to help students gear up for riding safety, focusing on equipment, and riding practices on pathways and roads. The unit covers the benefits of cycling, checking and fitting bikes and helmets, and riding safely on streets and shared pathways.

Held outdoors on the school’s blacktop, the Bike Rodeo’s three to four stations review key points from the classroom and address basic cycling skills like starting/stopping, navigating obstacles, and obeying the rules of the road.

Students are requested to bring their own bike and helmet; some bikes and helmets are also available to borrow. Our rodeo is designed to accommodate varying skill levels.

The Bicycle & Traffic Safety class is a pre-requisite for this class.
