Safe Routes to Schools programs are designed to decrease traffic and pollution and increase the health of children and the community, Safe Routes to Schools promotes walking and biking to school, using education and incentives to show how much fun it can be! The program addresses parents’ safety concerns by educating children and the public, partnering with traffic law enforcement, and developing plans to create safer streets. Marin County pioneered the national Safe Routes to Schools program that has spread across the U.S.
Contest Results on At Your School Twenty Seven elementary schools participated in this years Go for the Green contest. 76348 green trips were recorded during the 4 week period, reducing 32 tons of Co2. Despite two weeks of solid rain, schools still recorded impressive results Bulech's 5th grade class at Hamilton School in Novato topped all other schools with 95% green trips through the duration of the contest. Mary Silveira School recorded 61% of green trips - the highest percentage of all school tht have submitted results thus far. That's a 10% increase over their fall baseline surveys.
